SUMMARY:Those who know: Talking to our kids about sex
DESCRIPTION:In the journey of parenthood\, one of the topics often regarded as taboo is the subject of sex. What\, when\, where\, and how to have these conversations have always been gray areas. This subject can become even more difficult or intimidating when you add the layer of adversity or sexual trauma some children from hard places have experienced before coming into our homes. \nJoin Fostering Hope’s Director of Programs and fellow adoptive mom\, Dr. Beth Feger as she leads an interactive discussion around talking to our kids about sex. Together we will address the nuances of talking with children who have experienced sexual trauma about the topics of intimacy\, consent\, and sex. \nWherever you are on this journey\, we look forward to seeing you at this month’s Those Who Know: Parent Support session.

SUMMARY:Those Who Know: Honoring First Families
DESCRIPTION:It is estimated that 70% of children who become involved with the child welfare system will return to their first families. Research shows that even in cases where permeance is found outside of a child’s first family connection to their family remains an integral part of the foundation for a child’s identity and overall self-worth throughout their life. \nJoin Fostering Hope Parent Development Coordinator\, Jordan Vera\, as she leads a discussion on questions to consider and perspectives for navigating relationships with your child’s first family at different levels of involvement. \nShe will be joined by other foster or adoptive parents who have navigated the various relationships represented in the adoption triad or through foster care reunification.

SUMMARY:Parent Coaching: The Impact of Trauma on Development
DESCRIPTION:Trauma experienced in early childhood\, delays development. \nAs parents of children with trauma\, we might not always understand the “why” behind our child’s behavior. We might even catch ourselves thinking\, “why don’t you just act your age?” In this session we will take a closer look into how our children can be delayed in development and expereince emotional and behavioral issues due to trauma. \nOur parent coaching sessions are online trainings with a small number of participants. This is a great time to bring your specific questions as our parent trainer will be able to give more one on one answers due to the small number of participants in the group. \nFoster parents will receive a certificate of attendance for continuing education credits.  \nPlease register on the link below for this event.
