SUMMARY:Parenting with Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Parenting with Resilience is for those who are parenting teens and young adults. This support group style cohort will have evidence-based practices on the unique joys and challenges of parenting teens who have experienced loss\, trauma\, and separation. \nWe want to bring together those of us who are walking the journey of raising teens and young adults who have experienced loss\, trauma\, or separation through kinship care\, foster care\, or adoption. This is a community that can be a soft place to land when walking through hard seasons.

SUMMARY:Those who know: Beth Smith Feger\, Ph.D.
DESCRIPTION:Tips for setting kids up for success at school!\nJoin us on August 11\, 2022 as we prepare for another school year. \nYou may already be exhausted thinking about another school year – the teacher meetings\, the school supplies\, the hours spent shuttling your kids from place to place\, the crumpled papers in the bottom of the backpack. How many days before you get that call\, you know the one? \nIn this session\, we will discuss how we can start the year with energy and take a break when we need it. We will cover how to share our child’s particular needs with folks at school and how much to share. We’ll touch on whether our child needs the added support of a 504 or special education. \nParticipants will receive a template for a teacher letter to share with your child’s teacher to help them better understand how trauma has impacted your child’s brain and tips for teachers to help your child be successful.

SUMMARY:Access to the Experts: TBRI® through the Teen Years
DESCRIPTION:Fostering Hope presents an Access to the Experts event: “TBRI® Through the Teen Years” featuring guest speaker\, Jacob Huereca. \nThe teenage years can be a difficult transition for parents and adolescents. With all the stress the world puts on our teens … we want to make sure their safe space is with us while still helping them develop into healthy attached adults. \nAre you a kinship caregiver\, foster or adoptive parent\, youth pastor\, mentor or teacher of an adolescent in care? So what does it look like to be a safe adult in the life of an adolescent who has experienced loss\, trauma\, or the foster care system? \nJoin us as Jacob Huereca walks us through how to parent using TBRI through the Teen Years! \nWhat is TBRI®? \nTBRI® is an attachment-based\, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs\, Connecting Principles for attachment needs\, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment\, sensory processing\, and neuroscience research\, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection. \nAbout our Speaker: \nJacob Huereca is currently the Chief Executive Officer for Connections Individual and Family Services in New Braunfels\, Texas. Prior to joining Connections\, Jacob was the Executive Director at New Life Children’s Center and has spent the majority of his career working with at-risk youth and their families. Jacob received his undergraduate social work degree from Colorado State University-Pueblo and his Master’s degree in social work from The University of Texas at Austin.
