SUMMARY:Parent Support: Making Room for Myself
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n\n\nWhen we think of the attunement and intentionality it takes to parent a child who has experienced adversity\, it is not hard to imagine how easy it is to get lost in the many hats and responsibilities of parenting. It’s often a slow fade into the back-burner of caregiving and one day we realize we have lost touch with who we are outside of parenthood. \nSociety’s obsession with self-care has led us to believe that it must be done outside of the demands of life\, however\, we know that it often must be achieved in the midst of those demands. Whether you want to be proactive with your self-preservation or you find yourself already in the cycle\, join Fostering Hope’s bi-weekly virtual parent support gathering where you will hear from Fostering Hope experts on how to make room for yourself and your needs in the midst of parenting. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Those who know: Beth Smith Feger\, Ph.D.
DESCRIPTION:Tips for setting kids up for success at school!\nJoin us on August 11\, 2022 as we prepare for another school year. \nYou may already be exhausted thinking about another school year – the teacher meetings\, the school supplies\, the hours spent shuttling your kids from place to place\, the crumpled papers in the bottom of the backpack. How many days before you get that call\, you know the one? \nIn this session\, we will discuss how we can start the year with energy and take a break when we need it. We will cover how to share our child’s particular needs with folks at school and how much to share. We’ll touch on whether our child needs the added support of a 504 or special education. \nParticipants will receive a template for a teacher letter to share with your child’s teacher to help them better understand how trauma has impacted your child’s brain and tips for teachers to help your child be successful.

SUMMARY:Can They Handle The Truth? Talking to My Child About Their Story
DESCRIPTION:As parents of children with trauma\, we might find it hard to talk to our children about their difficult story. We might find ourselves wondering if we will retraumatize them or hurt them by talking about it. The truth is\, many times\, they are already thinking about their story and we must create a safe space to allow them to process it. In this session\, we will learn tips for telling our children the truth about their history. \nThis training will be held virtually and you will receive the link to join the call once you register. The trainer and facilitator has been there and understands how difficult it could be to parent a child who has experienced trauma.

SUMMARY:Connecting with My Child: Trauma's Impact on Attachment
DESCRIPTION:Connection is the primary source of healing for children from a hard place. Many times a child’s history has taught them to protect themselves from connection. In this session\, we will review how attachment style is formed in early childhood and practical strategies to foster connection and attachment with a child\, no matter their history. \n Our parent coaching sessions are online trainings with a small number of participants. This is a great time to bring your specific questions as our parent trainer will be able to give more one-on-one answers due to the small number of participants in the group. \nThis is an online training. You will receive the link to join after registering for the event.

SUMMARY:Access to the Experts: TBRI® For Teens
DESCRIPTION:This training will be offered via Zoom. \nDate & Time: Thursday\, March 24th from 9:00 am-1:00 pm \nDescription: The teenage years can be a difficult transition for adolescents & the adults that love them. With all the stress the world puts on our teens … we want to make sure their safe space is with us while still helping them develop into healthy attached adults … no matter how long we have them! \nSo what does it look like to be a safe adult in the life of an adolescent who has loss\, trauma\, or the foster care system? \nWhat is TBRI®? \nTBRI® is an attachment-based\, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs\, Connecting Principles for attachment needs\, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment\, sensory processing\, and neuroscience research\, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection.

SUMMARY:Avoiding Power Struggles: The Power is Mine to Share
DESCRIPTION:When we don’t see the meaning behind behaviors\, we are at risk of entering into a power struggle with our children. Children who have experienced trauma have overwhelming behaviors. As parents\, we must see the meaning behind the behavior and meet the need for our child to prevent power struggles and optimize healing. \nIn this session\, we will discuss the reasons behind these difficult behaviors and how to respond to them using the IDEAL response from TBRI®. Our parent coaching sessions are workshops for foster and adoptive parents with a small number of participants. Bring your specific questions as our parent trainer will be able to give more one-on-one answers due to the small number of participants in the group. \nThis is online training. You will receive the link to join after registering for the event. \n Foster parents will receive a certificate of completion for CEUs.

SUMMARY:TBRI® for Teens: Correction
DESCRIPTION:In this Parent Support Session\, we will look deeper into how to incorporate the correction strategies from TBRI®for teens. Correction is about looking at the need behind the behavior and meeting that need. We might believe our teen has the same skills as their peers\, but because trauma impacts development\, we will have to teach those skills to them. Many times\, correction begins with setting our bar where they can be successful. Join other parents who are also navigating the teen years during this small group training and discussion. \n Foster parents will receive a certificate of completion for CEUs.
